Clambering back up the steps, Molly stopped in front of her door and stared at it. In her rush to get out, she’d forgotten to pick up the keys. Pulling in a deep breath, she let it rush from her and knocked on the door.
Phelix did not look happy when he opened the door. “Where did you go?” he asked as he stood out of the way to let her in.
“To get the mail,” Molly said as she held out the stack of letters her sister had given her.
Phelix took the stack of letters from her hand and looked at them. “And these couldn’t have waited for you to get dressed?” he asked as he tossed the letters down on the coffee table. He glanced down at what Molly was wearing.
Molly let out another sigh. “I guess not.”
Reaching out, Phelix wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer. “Where did you go?” he asked again in an upset tone. “I tried to follow you out, but you disappeared.”
Molly leaned into his warmth and tried to think of a plausible excuse. “To the manager’s office,” she lied. “I’m expecting a package that’s too big for the mailbox, and I needed to check on it before the office closed.” This wasn’t exactly untrue. She had placed an order online for some books that weren’t going to fit in her mailbox, but those weren’t supposed to be in until next week.
“Well, don’t run off like that again, beautiful.” He hugged her harder against him. “It makes me worry.”
Molly buried her face in his chest as he kissed her hair. “I’m sorry.” She clutched his shirt as she tried to contain her emotions. His concern touched her, and made her want to cry out her frustration with the situation.
“It’s okay,” Phelix said as he ran his hands down her back. Leaning forward, he nuzzled the hair at the side of her neck. “You’re wearing my blanket.” He punctuated his words with a soft kiss to her neck.
Molly fidgeted in his arms. “I was cold.”
Putting a little space between them, Phelix lifted his hand up to her cheek and raised her face to him. “Let me see if I can warm you up.” He leaned in to capture her lips.
She pressed against his chest, and kept him from his goal. “I’m still sick,” she protested.
Phelix let out a soft snort of amusement. “I don’t care,” he said as he molded her body to his and claimed her lips.
Curling her fingers into his shirt, Molly closed her eyes and melted into his kiss. The warm tip of his tongue traced across the seam of her lips, working to deepen their embrace. Letting him in, Molly released the hold she had on his shirt and wrapped her arms around his back. She held on as his mouth washed most of the world away. The only thing present in her mind was the feel of him pressing her against his front, and a hot ball of desire building deep inside her.
